Sophie Young, 11 from New Malden and Tim Woolf, 56, from Kingston were this week named the winners of the ‘League of Friends’ Kingston photography competition.
Sophie’s image of a young deer on a crisp wintry morning up by White Lodge in Richmond, said, ‘It was as if she was smiling at me.’ Sophie who has a keen interest as a budding photographer, has just won a photography scholarship to Marymount International School in Richmond.
Tim’s portrait of three young girls, excitedly watching the cyclists rush by on Kingston High Street during ‘Prudential Ride London’ day caught the imagination of the judging panel. Tim said, ‘It was a lovely happy Sunday and I knew the sight of these three laughing would make a fantastic picture.’ Tim, a keen hobbyist photographer is currently working to make his passion his profession.
Both winners were presented with a £50 John Lewis voucher and enjoyed a winners reception at Surbiton Health Centre. All the short listed entries will be hung at the centre for the next three years.
Sandra Berry, speaking on behalf of the ‘Friends’ said; ‘We’re delighted to be able to showcase the rich and diverse talents of our local community at Surbiton Health Centre. The images on show certainly reflect this.’ Formed by volunteers, some of whom are ex-health professionals, Friends of Surbiton & Tolworth Health Community are a local health charity who work to provide help and support to staff, patients and carers wherever they are located, that are not able to be made available from NHS funds.
