Shared Lives host their first Open day in Kingston
Shared Lives, a scheme by Your Healthcare, hosted their first Open Day on Thursday 3rd February at their new Home in New Malden. The open event was open to members of the public, partners and staff to see one of their new homes available under the scheme. The house was opened for tours of the 4 bedroomed home which has a large lounge, expansive garden and spacious rooms. The house is ready and waiting for members of the public who need the services of the Shared Lives Scheme.
What is Shared Lives? Shared Lives is an alternative to supported living, domiciliary care and care homes for disabled adults (aged 16+) and older people.
For the person 16+ who wants to be at home and requires professional support, a drastic change in their setting can be daunting and worrying - this is often the number one reason why many do not have adequate care whilst remaining at home.
Shared Lives is the happy medium – bringing the expert care of formal settings in a homely environment, where a member of the community opens up there home to provide care in a home setting.
Shared Lives Carers offer:
• Permanent Placements, the opportunity to join a family or household. • Respite Care – from 1 night to 3 months • Step down bed from hospital (convalescence)
“I love Shared Lives and became a carer because I get to share my life with people I consider family. They may not be able to live at home as it may not be safe for them to do so, so I give my time and open up my home to share my life with people who need extra care and support” Umar
Carers are assessed and trained to provide a high level of person-centred assistance on a short-term or long-term basis.
Benefits of Shared Lives:
• Professional care for loved ones • Remain in a home setting • Access to local medical teams • Person-centred assistance • Peace of mind
Shared Lives Carers are fully assessed (including DBS checked).
Shared Lives are looking for new carers living in the Kingston area. Readers can refer someone to be a carer by contacting Michelle Wood on 02083398083. Adults in need of Shared lives placements are referred to the scheme by their Care Manager from Kingston Council.
