School Health

Services provided by the School Health team:

• Health assessments, advice, information, signposting and referrals to specialist services for children where specific needs have been identified.
• Support for schools to implement whole school approaches to promote health and wellbeing in school communities.
• Work in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals to safeguard the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
• Weekly drop-in clinics at secondary schools, where pupils can attend without an appointment for confidential support and advice.
• Measurement of height and weight of primary school pupils as part of the National Childhood Measurement Programme.
• Provision of the HENRY programme to support families to lead happy healthy lives. The ethos of the programme supports parents to set goals for their family that promote a healthy lifestyle that the family can maintain.
• Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), health promotion assemblies, workshops and targeted small group interventions in schools.
• Termly parent advice clinics in primary schools.
• Provision of a health drop-in for year 6 pupils to support transition into secondary school.
• Night-time bedwetting parent/carer workshops provide information and advice to parents/carers so that they can support their child to become dry at night.
• Telephone, text and email service for young people seeking confidential health advice, information and signposting.
• Professional development and staff training for school staff. This includes training in mental health first aid, anaphylaxis, asthma awareness and other health related topics.
