Safeguarding Adults

Safeguarding means protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of adults at risk, enabling them to live safely, free from abuse and neglect.

Adult safeguarding is about working in partnership with our patients and service users, including their families and carers, to prevent and reduce both the risks and experience of abuse or neglect.

Who does adult safeguarding apply to?

Safeguarding applies to any adult (aged 18 or over) who may be in need of help because they have care and support needs.

They may be:

  • experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect and
  • unable to protect themselves because of their care and support needs.
